Treatment for Hip Pain | Hip Pain Relief

Hip pain is the sensation of discomfort in or around the hip joint, where the upper end (head) of the thigh bone (femur) fits into the socket of the hip bone. Hip pain has a number of causes, most of which are related to degeneration, injury, or inflammation of the muscles, bones, joints, and tendons located in the hip area.

Hip Pain

Hip pain can make everyday tasks, including getting in and out of a car or walking up a flight of stairs, nearly impossible. Hip pain can sometimes be caused by diseases and conditions in other areas of your body. This type of pain is called referred pain. Hip pain is rarely an emergency, and most hip pain can be controlled with self care at home.

Home Remedies for Hip Pain:

Ice & Heat:

Ice needs to be applied right away to hip pain. Place ice in a resalable bag. Lay a towel over the hip and place the ice on the towel. Never place ice directly on the skin because it can cause frostbite. Keep the ice on the pain for 15 minutes. Ice can be applied every hour if needed. After two days of ice treatments, switch to heat treatment. Set a heating pad on medium to low,
and place on the affected hip. Do not lie on the heating pad because it can overheat and cause burns. A hot tub set to 90 degrees Fahrenheit can also act as a heat treatment.

Exercise:

To keep your strength and flexibility up, try an aquatic workout. The water helps relieve the pressure on your hips. Try some stretching exercises to relax and strengthen the hip muscles. This helps rehabilitate the hip and protect against future injury. Yoga can enhance the flexibility of the hip. If you feel pain while exercising the area, stop. Let your hip recover a little longer
before trying again.
